New MBB coach Quannas White to throw out first pitch on Friday; 2000 CWS team returns on Saturday
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team wraps up a four-game homestand beginning on Friday when it hosts Sun Belt Conference rival Georgia Southern for a three-game series at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
First pitch for Friday's opener is set for 6 p.m. The series continues Saturday at 2 p.m. before concluding on Sunday at noon. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+ with fans able to listen to the games in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
Fans attending the Friday and Saturday games will be treated to the new and old before each start. New Louisiana Men's Basketball coach Quannas White will throw out the first pitch in Friday's opener, while members of Louisiana's 2000 College World Series team will be recognized before Saturday's contest.
Louisiana (20-23, 10-8 SBC) comes off a road series win last weekend at Old Dominion, earning an extra-inning win in the opener before posting a 10-0 victory in the finale. The Ragin' Cajuns defeated Nicholls in their midweek finale, 6-2, on Wednesday.
Conor Higgs (.336-13-32) leads Louisiana in average, home runs and RBI. Owen Galt (.290-0-11), Caleb Stelly (.287-5-20), Lee Amedee (.286-1-25) and Jose Torres (.286-2-28) are next in hitting for Louisiana.
Sophomore Chase Morgan (3-1, 3.35 ERA) will start on the mound in Friday's opener for Louisiana with Andrew Herrmann (2-3, 4.56 ERA) earning the start on Saturday. Right-hander JR Tollett (4-3, 2.98 ERA) will take the mound for Louisiana in Sunday's finale.
Georgia Southern (23-18, 9-9 SBC) claimed two of three games last weekend against visiting Arkansas State before dropping a 12-1 contest on Tuesday at Florida.
Sean Smith (.404-9-33), the league's leading hitter, is one of three players hitting above .330 for the Eagles with Josh Tate (.365-10-36) and Daniel Haab (.331-6-25) next.
The Eagles will send a pair of right-handers to the mound in the opening two games of the series with Brady Pendley (3-0, 2.34 ERA) earning the start on Friday with Kade Grundy (5-4, 4.22 ERA) slated to pitch on Saturday. Sunday's starter for the Eagles is to be determined.
