40th Annual Louisiana Classics Set To Begin Monday at Oakbourne

Louisiana hosts 12-team field in 54-hole event
LAFAYETTE – The 40th Annual Louisiana Classics Golf Tournament officially tees off on Monday with 12 teams competing in a 54-hole event at Oakbourne Country Club.

First round action, consisting with a 36-hole shotgun start, will begin at 8 a.m. The final 18 holes will be played on Monday beginning with a 7:30 a.m. fixed tee start and will be streamed live on ESPN+

Admission is free. Live scoring for the two-day event is available at Scoreboard.clippd.com. Â

Louisiana, ranked No. 81 nationally, will host a field that includes three teams in the Scoreboard Top-50 – No. 7 LSU, No. 24 and three-time defending champion Texas A&M and No. 38 Little Rock. Also competing in the field is Illinois State, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Oral Roberts, Rice, Sam Houston, South Alabama and Texas State.

Kyle Bennett, an All-Tournament recipient after finishing tied for second in the 2023 Classics, will make his first appearance in the No. 1 slot for Louisiana. He will be joined in the lineup by senior Eli Ortego, Malan Potgieter, Jean Louis du Plessis and Carter Schmitt.

Burke Alford will be one of four Ragin' Cajuns competing as individuals with Dylan Keating, Matthew Lotz and Ross Anderson set to play.

Texas A&M claimed last year's title – its third consecutive crown and fourth overall since 2018 – with a 17-stroke victory over second-place Sam Houston. Phichaksn Maichon of Texas A&M tied a tournament record with an 18-under-198 to become the sixth Aggie in the tournament's history to claim medalist honors.
