Louisiana Sweeps Javelin on Opening Night of Louisiana Classics

A pair of underclassmen took home the javelin title
LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana track and field team won both the men's and women's javelin on the opening night of the 2025 Louisiana Classics. It was an abbreviated night with just the javelin and discus competing.
Ellie Manuel opened the night with the best throw on the women's side. The sophomore's first throw of 148-10/45.38m was enough to win the event. Teammate and senior Marin Barras took second with a throw of 141-5/41.12m. No other throw in the field eclipsed 127-6/38.87m.
Freshman Will Howard claimed the men's title in the javelin. His fifth throw of 200-1/61.00m beat the field by nearly 10 feet. In third was fellow freshman Jemar Ferguson at 183-10/56.04m. Sam Kinnard also reached the finals, placing ninth at 159-10/48.72m.
In the men's discus, Oliver Jack came in fourth. The junior's second throw of 150-4/45.84m was his best while Praiyer Jones was seventh with a throw of 146-4/44.62m.
Day two of the Classics begins at 7:30 a.m. with the 5k, followed by field events at 10 a.m. and at 1 p.m. the track events.
