Cajuns Set To Compete On Wednesday at NCAA East First Round

Five Cajuns set to open competition in first day of four-day meet

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field team opens competition on Wednesday at the NCAA East First Round, hosted by the University of Kentucky, and set for the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
 
The four-day meet runs through Saturday with coverage scheduled for each day on ESPN+. Live results are available here.
 
Louisiana will open competition with men's events, beginning with Jemar Ferguson in the javelin at 8 a.m. CT. Kobe Mendez will compete in the preliminaries in the men's 110-meter hurdles at 5 p.m. CT, with Praiyer Jones and Devonte Edwards starting in the shot put at 5:30 p.m.
 
Sprinter Mark Daley will close out the opening day for the Ragin' Cajuns when he competes in the 200-meter dash at 7:45 p.m. CT.
 
Emma Bacilla (women's javelin) and Reem Tammam (women's long jump) will compete on Thursday with the men's 4x100-meter relay team of Zakhy Munro, Daley, Caemon Scott and Camren Hardy scheduled to compete in Heat 1 on Friday at 4 p.m. CT.
 
Saturday's final day of the meet will see three Sun Belt Conference event winners – Kimola Hines (women's discus), Alaysha Veal (women's high jump) and Tammam (women's triple jump) – compete beginning at noon CT.
 
Regional qualifiers will compete in both the NCAA East First Round and NCAA West First Round (Fayetteville, Ark.), with the qualifiers from the two sites advancing to the NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 10-13 in Eugene, Oregon.
 
Louisiana earned a second-place finish in women's competition two weeks ago at the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Mobile, Ala., with the men placing fifth overall.
