Morrison, Jaguars Even Series With Cajuns, 8-1

MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama's Kyle Morrison went 3-for-5 with six RBI while a pair of pitchers combined on a five-hitter in an 8-1 Sun Belt Conference victory over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday afternoon at Stanky Field.
The final game of the three-game series will be played on Sunday at 1 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with fans able to listen to the game in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
Mitchell Heer (2-0) tossed 6.0 innings and struck out a pair of batters to earn the win for South Alabama (11-11, 1-4 Sun Belt), which used Morrison's three-run homer in the first inning to set the tone. Matthew Holzhammer (0-3) took the loss for Louisiana (10-14, 2-3 Sun Belt) after facing six batters and getting a strikeout.
South Alabama's first two hitters – Brennen Holt and John Smith – reached on singles in the first inning before Morrison hit an opposite-field homer to left for his fourth of the season.
Morrison would fuel a three-run fourth for the Jaguars when his two-out double to right scored Ty Brooks and Holt for a 5-0 lead. Morrison would add the third run of the inning for the Jaguars when he scored from second on an error.
South Alabama would add a run in the seventh on Lucas Ismaili's RBI grounder to third before Morrison doubled to left-center in the eighth to drive in Robert Miranda.
Louisiana got on the board in the sixth when Caleb Stelly homered to left – his fourth of the season – off Heer, who allowed two hits in his first start of the season. Lee Amedee led Louisiana at the plate going 2-for-4 with Stelly finishing 1-for-3 at the plate.
Jose Torres broke up Heer's no-hitter in the third with a one-out single for Louisiana while
Carson Hepworth reached on a pinch-hit single in the eighth.
Jaxon Shineflew pitched the final 3.0 innings to earn his first save of the year for South Alabama with Smith collecting three hits, including a double.
Blake McGehee scattered five hits in 3.2 innings in relief for Louisiana with Riley Marcotte pitching a career-best 4.0 innings out of the bullpen with a pair of strikeouts.
