Louisiana Faces SLU To Open Five-Game Road Swing

Ragin' Cajuns have claimed four of last five games in Hammond

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team opens a five-game road trip beginning on Wednesday when it travels to Hammond to face in-state foe Southeastern Louisiana at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.
 
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with fans able to listen to the game in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
 
Coming off an 18-14 win over No. 21-ranked Troy on Sunday, Louisiana (9-12) battles and SLU (16-3) squad that is 11-1 at home with its lone loss coming to Tulane. The Ragin' Cajuns claimed a 9-7 win in the last meeting with SLU as Caleb Stelly driving in three runs with a pair of triples and Conor Higgs adding a solo home run.
 
Louisiana, which will continue east to face South Alabama in a three-game series beginning on Friday before a March 25 date at LSU, will look for its first victory on the road this season in five attempts.
 
Freshman Brooks Wright (.333-0-14) paces Louisiana at the plate with Higgs (.319-6-11) and Jose Torres (.303-1-11) hitting above .300 on the season. Stelly (.259-3-15) leads the Ragin' Cajuns in RBI with Wright pacing the team with seven stolen bases.
 
True freshman Aidan Grab (0-0, 2.84 ERA), a Madisonville, La., native and former Mandeville High product, will make his first career start on the mound for Louisiana with SLU countering with right-hander Luke Lirette (0-1, 7.94 ERA).
 
SLU, currently ranked seventh nationally in team ERA (3.07) and ninth in home runs (40), earned a three-game sweep last weekend at Stephen F. Austin to extend its win streak to five. The Lions lead all Division I schools in shutouts (4) on the season and are second nationally in double plays (22).
 
Dane Watts (.453-2-13) paces SLU at the plate with Giovanni Licciardi (.421-0-10) and Ryan Brome (.386-9-21) following.
