Cajuns Open Outdoor Season at Cowboy Relays

Louisiana returns home next weekend for the Louisiana Classics

LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana - The Louisiana track and field team picked up where they left off with a strong showing in their first outdoor meet of the season at the Cowboy Relays hosted by McNeese on Saturday in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Louisiana got off to a great start in the 4x200m relay, running a time of 1:26.27, the fourth-fastest in school history. Kenzie Touchet followed that by winning the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.94.

On the men's side of the 400m hurdles, Felix Weidenhaupt excelled in his collegiate debut. The freshman placed second with a time of 55.49. He wasn't the only Cajun in the field as Kobe Mendez finished third at 57.12 and Finn Galyean was sixth at 59.38.

Courtney Wiltz came in second in the long jump with a distance of 18-0.25/5.49m. In the women's 100m, Louisiana was second and third. Jaala Thymes was second at 12.00 while Jakyra Edwards was right behind her in third at 12.01. Kayla Meyers finished third in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.58. The women capped the day in the 4x400m relay. The team of Evalyn Abdmoulaie, Ivie Mashia, Thymes, and Touchet finished in 3:55.34 to place third.

Mendez also ran the 110m hurdles, taking home second with a time of 14.24. Galyean was seventh in the event at 15.08. The men wrapped up the day by placing second in the 4x400m relay, with Hunter Ullrich, Darius Charles, Jarell Joseph, and Weidenhaupt running a time of 3:15.67.

The Cajuns will be home next week for the Louisiana Classics beginning Friday at the Home Bank Soccer and Track Complex.
