Louisiana Set to Host Cajun Winter Classic Beginning Friday

The Cajuns will play three matches over two days against Southern Arkansas, Tyler JC, and UT Arlington
LAFAYETTE – The spring season is in full swing for the Louisiana men's tennis team as they host the Cajun Winter Classic this weekend at Cajun Courts. The Ragin' Cajuns will play three matches against Southern Arkansas, Tyler JC, and UT Arlington.
The Cajuns are coming off their first win of 2025, a 5-2 victory over UT Tyler. Oriol Fillat Gimenez led the Cajuns with a win in singles on court one and in doubles. That earned the senior Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors.
It's the season opener for Southern Arkansas. The Muleriders went 14-8 last year, won the Division II Central Region, and advanced to the Division II Round of 16. They return Tim Fischer, who won 11 games last season playing on courts one and two. It's also the first matches of the season for Tyler Junior College.
UT Arlington is searching for their first win of the year after a pair of 4-3 defeats last weekend against New Mexico and UTSA. Longtime rivals, it'll be the 20th meeting between the Cajuns and Mavericks a series that the Cajuns lead 10-9. It'll be the first meeting between the schools since the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Tournament.
The Cajuns open the weekend at 9 a.m. Friday against Southern Arkansas, followed by a 2 p.m. match against TJC. The weekend wraps up on Saturday at 2 p.m. against UTA.
