Louisiana won the marathon match that saw four matches go to a third set
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Louisiana men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-2 win over Texas A&M - Corpus Christi on Saturday in Corpus Christi. The Cajuns handed the host Islanders their first loss of the season in nine matches.
In an evenly matched doubles contest, Louisiana jumped out to the early lead thanks to Samuel Kyjaci and Leonard Tramolay winning on court two, 6-3. The other two matches came down to the wire but it was the Islanders who came away with the doubles point.
Playing indoors, only three singles contests were played at a time. Louisiana fell behind 2-0 after the Islanders picked up the first match in three sets on court two. Kyjaci rallied back after dropping the first set to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-0, his fifth singles win in a row.
Oriol Fillat Gimenez trailed in the third set on court one 5-3, before winning four straight games to take the match, 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 7-5. With the score all square at two, courts four, five, and six would determine the match.
William Jade made quick work on court four, winning 6-1, 6-3 to put Louisiana on the verge of clinching. Fellow freshman Darius Balan clinched the match on court six with a 7-5, 6-2 win to end the marathon match.
