Louisiana, SJSU meet for first time on diamond since 2000 College World Series
LAFAYETTE – The 2025 edition of the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team officially opens its season on Friday when it plays host to Mountain West Conference opponent San Jose State in a three-game series at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park,
First pitch for Friday's opener is scheduled for 6 p.m. The series will resume on Saturday at 2 p.m. before wrapping up Sunday at 11 a.m.
Fans will be able to listen to all three games in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app with Jay Walker (pxp) and Brad Topham (color) providing commentary. Friday's game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with Dan McDonald (pxp) and Brennan Breaux (color) on the call.
Louisiana (42-20), the defending Sun Belt Conference regular-season champions, earned its third consecutive berth to the NCAA Regionals where it advanced to the regional final against eventual national runner-up Texas A&M. The meeting with San Jose State (24-33 in 2024) will be the first on the diamond between the schools since facing off in the 2000 College World Series with the Ragin' Cajuns claiming a 6-3 victory.
The Ragin' Cajuns return 16 letterwinners for sixth-year head coach Matt Deggs with All-America candidate Chase Morgan (6-3, 3.18 ERA) slated to start on the mound in Friday's opener. Luke Yuhasz (.318-7-21), Jose Torres (.310-3-35) and Caleb Stelly (.296-1-33) are the top returning hitters for Louisiana, which led the Sun Belt Conference and was 42nd nationally in hitting (.301).
