Colonels Fend Off Fourth-Quarter Fight from the Ragin’ Cajuns

11/14/2025 10:30:00 PM | Women's Basketball

Louisiana’s attempt at winning basket in final 10 seconds falls short

THIBODAUX – A fourth quarter comeback attempt led by freshmen Amijah Price and Arionna Patterson ran out of time as the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team fell 66-64 to Nicholls on Friday, November 14 at David R. Stopher Gymnasium in Thibodaux.

Price (10 pts) and Patterson (6 pts) combined for 16 of the 20 points that the Ragin' Cajuns gathered after falling behind 56-44 in the opening minutes of the final quarter.

The storm back for Louisiana (0-4) began with a personal six-point run from Patterson on three straight possessions over a one-minute span, a swipe and score at 5:34 trimming the Nicholls lead to 56-50.

Nicholls (2-2) maintained at least a two-possession lead until Price banked in a three-pointer with 29 seconds remaining to trim the lead to 64-62. The Colonels' Jesslynn Jalomo missed a free throw on the ensuing possession and it remained a one-possession affair.

Price was then fouled on a three-point attempt with 21 seconds showing, but the Colonels kept the lead as she missed the final free throw. Nicholls missed another free throw on the other end and the door remained open for Louisiana to either force overtime on win the contest.

The Ragin' Cajuns had two looks at finishing the comeback in the final 17 seconds as Price drove for a would-be tying layup and Lily Ba had a look at a would-be, go-ahead three-pointer. Unfortunately, neither attempt fell in the basket and Nicholls forced a held ball with one second remaining then inbounded and ran out the clock.

It was a Nicholls response to a series of three consecutive three-point makes by Louisiana, which gave the visitors a 44-40 lead prior to the two-minute mark of the third quarter, that led to the final lead change of the night.

Beginning with a three-point response from Sh'diamond McKnight at 1:47, the Colonels sprinted back into the lead with a 16-0 run than spilled over into the fourth quarter.

The loss kept Louisiana in search of its first win of the young season. The Ragin' Cajuns have a 10-day wait for the next chance to break into the win column, the next outing not until November 25 at Memphis.

Nicholls avenged a pair of November losses to Louisiana from the previous two seasons and took a 15-14 lead in series meetings held in Thibodaux.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Price's big fourth quarter led to her second 20-point performance of the young season, the 22 points tallied marking a season-high figure. She knocked down eight field goals, two from three-point land, grabbed 11 boards and picked up four steals.

Mikaylah Manley poured in 11 points in the first half helping Louisiana keep pace trailing only 29-26 at the break. She made a game-high nine field goals and finished with a game-high tying 23 points.

Louisiana outrebounded Nicholls 48-38 with Manley adding eight boards and Imani Daniel six boards in support of Price's game-leading total. The Ragin' Cajuns pulled down 22 offensive rebounds.

The Colonels benefitted from a 7-4 edge from beyond the arc and a 15-10 advantage at the free throw line. Jalomo was the key catalyst with four triples and 11 free throw makes.
