Louisiana dominates with combined 15 victories in fall finale
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Tennis team capped off a strong weekend of play at home, posting dominant performances in both singles and doubles competition at the Ragin' Cajun Invitational held on Saturday at Cajun Courts.
The Ragin' Cajuns showcased their depth across the lineup with 10 wins in singles play and five victories in doubles competition.
In doubles play, Angelique Berrat and Marilou Bressan earned a pair of wins, cruising to a 6-2 win over Elizaveta Mikhailova and Raquel Coelho Rodrigues of Louisiana Christian, before earning a 6-3 decision against Southern's Tshegofatso Tsiang and Decora Antoine in the second round.
Safia Zenbi and Nina Krecklenberg mirrored that success with identical 6-2 wins over LCU's Farren Allysia Sandy and Akari Uchiyama, and the LCU duo of Mikhailova and Rodrigues.
Anicia Hammoud and Rocio Navarro bounced back from a 7-3 setback in their opener in doubles to claim a 6-0 win in round two over LCU's Ana Sofia Ferrer Martinez and Valeria Callejo.
Louisiana picked up five victories through the first round in singles play, with Berrat earning a 6-1, 6-0 win over Tsiang. Zenbi claimed a 6-3, 6-0 victory over LCU's Rodrigues, Bressan earned a 6-4, 6-0 over Southern's Kai Wince, with Navarro and Krecklenberg dropping just two total games in their victories.
The Ragin' Cajuns carried the momentum with five more wins in the second round, highlighted by Zenbi's 6-2, 6-1 victory over Tsiang and Bressan's 6-1, 6-1 win over Rodrigues. Navarro continued her strong play with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph against LeTesha Grant of Southern, while Hammoud earned a 6-3, 6-2 win over Callejo. Krecklenberg posted a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Uchiyama to round out the weekend.
