Potgieter Posts Top-Five Finish as Cajuns Wrap Up Play in Dallas

Potgieter ties career-low score for 54 holes; Cajuns finish 13th overall
DALLAS – Louisiana's Malan Potgieter tied his 54-hole career score, finishing at 13-under-par 203, and posted his fourth top-5 finish in as many events this fall to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team during the final day of the Trinity Forest Invitational on Tuesday at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
Louisiana finished 13th overall in the three-day event after posting a 4-over-par 292 in the final round and finishing at 874.
Potgieter, who tied his 54-hole total (13-under-203) set last month at the Argent Financial Classic, flirted with his second first-place finish of the season and a school-record total for 54 holes before recording bogey on three of his final four holes. Potgieter, who lowered his season stroke average to 68.5, finished two strokes behind co-medalists Lukas Boandl of Rice and Hudson Weibel of Houston.
Behind Potgieter, the freshmen tandem of Ben Blanco and Drew Sliman each tied for 63rd overall at 8-over 224 for the tournament, while Carter Schmitt finished 67th at 9-over 225. Freshman James Holtsclaw rounded out the lineup in 82nd at 229.
USC and Rice shared the team title at 32-under-832, one stroke ahead of South Alabama (833). Host SMU (839) and Houston (845) rounded out the top five in the 16-team field with Baylor (854), Furman (857), North Texas (861), East Tennessee State (865) and UTRGV (867) finishing sixth through tenth.
Louisiana will wrap up the fall season October 13-14 when it travels to Little Rock, Ark., to compete in the Everett Buick GMC Classic.
