Potgieter's School-Record Round Paces Cajuns at Trinity Forest Invitational

Louisiana moves up one spot heading into Tuesday's final round
DALLAS – Malan Potgieter's previous career-low round of 8-under-par 64 set last month lasted a total of 27 days.
The senior vaulted up 10 spots on the leaderboard for Louisiana on Monday during the second day of the Trinity Forest Invitational, firing a school-record 10-under-62 and pacing the Ragin' Cajuns at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
Louisiana moved up one spot to 13th place in the 54-hole event, posting a team score of 4-under-284 to finish one stroke behind Abilene Christian in the field.
The final round will be played on Tuesday beginning at 8:25 a.m. Louisiana, which will be paired with Cal Poly and UTSA, will tee off officially at 9:55 a.m. Live results are available at Scoreboard.Clippd.com.
Potgieter, who broke Eli Ortego's school-record 9-under-63 set in 2022, opened his second round with five straight birdies on the back nine before making the turn at 6-under-30. He moved to 7-under after a birdie at the par-5, 596-yard No. 2 before converting on birdies at No. 5, 6, and 7 to finish in a tie with Rice's Lukas Boandl for the overall lead at 12-under-132.
Potgieter eclipsed the previous tournament record set by Florida's Gordan Neale in 2017 notched his seventh round in the 60's during the 2025-26 season and 27th in his career.
Freshman Drew Sliman fired a score of even-par 72 in the second round for Louisiana with Ben Blanco shooting a 2-over-74. Carter Schmitt and James Holtsclaw each posted a round of 4-over-76 for the Ragin' Cajuns.
South Alabama recorded a team score of 16-under 272 to move into the overall lead at 553. Rice (555), USC (556), host SMU (558) and Houston (563) rounded out the top five.
