Louisiana Starts Final Non-Conference Week in Hammond

Back in the boot, Ragin’ Cajuns seek to start a new streak
HAMMOND – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team begins the final week of non-conference play on Tuesday, September 17 in Hammond, Louisiana with a 6:00 p.m. match against the Southeastern Louisiana University Lady Lions in the University Center.

Tuesday's match marks the Ragin' Cajuns first visit to Hammond since 2015. The contest is being televised on ESPN+.

Louisiana (2-6) is closing out its current six-match road stretch and is starting a three-match week that continues on Thursday and Friday back home at E.K. Long Gym with the Ragin' Cajuns Classic.

Graduate middle blocker Cami Hicks heads into the week needing only one block to establish herself as the program's rally scoring era career blocks record holder.

As part of a united effort with the Junior League of Lafayette, the Louisiana Volleyball program will be collecting unopened packs of diapers on Thursday and Friday to support the Stuff the Sleigh Diaper Drive which will benefit families in need.

- Louisiana concludes its current six-match road stretch and begins the final week of non-conference matches on Tuesday, September 17 in Hammond, Louisiana with a weekday match against Southeastern.
- The match with the Lady Lions marks the Ragin' Cajuns first visit to Hammond since September 2015.
- UL has three non-conference matches remaining including the SLU contest, with the pre-SBC slate wrapping up at E.K. Long against Jacksonville State and Florida A&M in the Ragin' Cajuns Classic starting on Thursday.
- Despite a four-match losing streak, the Cajuns have been battling as evidenced by a total of 93 ties and 34 lead changes during the tough-luck stretch.
- Cami Hicks enters the week tied for the program's rally scoring era career record for blocks with Kim Rodgers at 396 career blocks. Her next stuff breaks Rodgers' record which has stood since 2006.
- Lauryn Hill posted a team-high 31 kills in the Texas A&M Invitational, closing with back-to-back double-digit efforts. Hill has reached double digits in kills in three of the last four matches (since Houston).
- Freshman Jazmine Gaston, sitting at 93 kills, is on pace to be the first Cajun this season to reach 100 kills.
- In her debut with Louisiana last season, Mio Yamamoto led the Sun Belt in digs (296) in conference play in earning the highest honors for a libero in UL Volleyball history – first team All-SBC and Libero of the Year.
- There are six newcomers on the Ragin' Cajuns roster headlined by transfers Cailin Demps (Southern Miss) and Chelsea Gilmore (N.C. State) who are expected to make significant contributions.
- The Cajuns entered the season shorthanded, without the services of all-conference setter Siena DeCambra (season-ending injury) and a 300-200 kills-digs performer Shyia Richardson sidelined with injury.
- Mio Yamamoto represented Louisiana on the 2024 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Volleyball team. Yamamoto was selected the Preseason SBC Libero of the Year; she claimed the award in 2023.
- In the Sun Belt Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Ragin' Cajuns were picked fourth in the West division.
