Six record at least five kills, led by Schnell’s 15, as Cajuns extend win streak to a season-high three matches
LAFAYETTE – A balanced attack featuring six players with at least five kills steered the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball squad to a 3-1 (25-19, 25-19, 22-25, 25-17) victory over Louisiana Tech on Saturday, October 10 at E.K. Long Gym, completing a weekend series sweep and extending the Ragin' Cajuns' winning streak to a season-high three matches.

Louisiana (9-10, 4-2 SBC) overwhelmed the Bulldogs offensively once again, posting a 59-46 advantage in kills and hitting .282. The Ragin' Cajuns finished the two-match series with 107 kills, averaging 15.3 per set.

UL totaled 34 kills while taking the first two sets, then answered Tech's third-set victory with a .364 hitting percentage in the fourth. Louisiana committed just one attack error in the closing frame to secure the victory.

Sarah Schnell led the Ragin' Cajuns with 15 kills on .355 hitting, recording her 12th double-figure kill performance of the season and moving within four kills of 200. Lolo Lambert added 11 kills, while Emily Williams delivered a season-high 10 on .412 hitting and served four of Louisiana's six aces.

Marlee Ervin and Jazmine Gaston contributed seven kills apiece, and Lindsey Henry supplied five without an error in 14 attempts. Rhyan Miciotto distributed 26 assists and Ryleigh Garis added 21.

Kennedy Gustafson collected a match-high 17 digs, followed by Sophia Armstrong with nine. Gustafson rounded up double figures in digs for the 17th straight match time and 18th time overall in 19 outings while moving within three digs of a second straight 300-plus digs campaign.

Taylor Woods led Louisiana Tech (7-13, 0-6 SBC) with 14 kills and 12 digs. Kylie Rodriguez added 12 kills for the Bulldogs, who hit .228.

With the win, UL moved into sole possession of third place in the SBC West standings, surpassing next week's opponent (South Alabama), and remained within one game of the division lead behind Troy and Arkansas State.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Louisiana overcame an early 9-4 deficit in the opening set before breaking an 18-all tie with a 7-1 closing run. Henry supplied three kills during the decisive stretch, and Garis capped the frame with Louisiana's 18th kill.

Ervin and Schnell each produced five kills in the second set as UL built a 14-7 advantage. Tech trimmed the margin to 18-15, but the Ragin' Cajuns answered with six of the next eight points to reach set point. Ervin's kill secured another 25-19 decision and a two-set lead.

The Bulldogs extended the match after a third set featuring 12 ties and eight lead changes. Louisiana rallied from an 18-15 deficit to lead 19-18 and later moved ahead 21-20 on a Williams ace, but Louisiana Tech claimed five of the final six points.

Williams helped UL regain control immediately in the fourth, serving two aces during a five-point surge that created a 6-2 lead. After Tech closed within 15-12, the Ragin' Cajuns responded with an 8-2 run to pull away. Grace Sweeney recorded three kills in the set, including the match-winner.

Louisiana spends the next two weekends on the road, traveling for SBC series at South Alabama (Oct. 16-17) and App State (Oct. 23-24).
The road swing begins October 16-17 in Mobile, Alabama with matchups against the Jaguars set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Jaguar Gym on the USA campus. Both matches air on ESPN+.
