Non-conference tournament action continues at the Texas A&M Invitational

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team competes in the state of Texas for the second straight week, this time partaking in the Texas A&M Invitational from Friday-Sunday, September 13-15 at Reed Arena in Bryan-College Station, Texas.

The Ragin' Cajuns (2-3) have first-time meetings with New Hampshire on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and Temple on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., before facing Texas A&M on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the tournament finale. The matchup with the host-Aggies appears on SEC Network+.

The Texas A&M Invitational continues a road stretch for Louisiana that began last week in Houston at the Flo Hyman Classic. It was extended to six matches following the cancellation of Tuesday's home match with McNeese due to a campus-wide closure associated with Tropical Storm Francine.

SET POINTS
  • Louisiana plays its final road tournament of the season at the Texas A&M Invitational. Next weekend, the Cajuns conclude non-conference tournament action at home at E.K. Long Gym in the Ragin' Cajuns Classic.
  • Last week the Cajuns picked up a monumental victory in Houston for a second straight season, collecting a five-set win over Houston in the season's road opener.
  • Mio Yamamoto hit the 50-dig mark over the two matches in Houston at the Flo Hyman Classic. She posted 20-plus digs for the third and fourth times on the young season, averaging 5.6 digs per set.
  • Freshman Jazmine Gaston led the Cajuns offense with 30 kills (3.3/set) on .215 hitting in Houston. She helped set the tone in the win over UH, landing five kills on a .500 hitting percentage in the first set alone.
  • Head coach Kristi Gray claimed her 50th win at Louisiana on Saturday, August 31 (vs. Murray State), becoming the second-fastest in program history to reach the mark, trailing only Wilo Colon.
  • Cami Hicks set a career-high with 13 blocks vs. Murray State. She was two shy of the program's rally era record.
  • In her debut with Louisiana last season, Mio Yamamoto led the Sun Belt in digs (296) in conference play in earning the highest honors for a libero in UL Volleyball history – first team All-SBC and Libero of the Year.
  • There are six newcomers on the Ragin' Cajuns roster headlined by transfers Cailin Demps (Southern Miss) and Chelsea Gilmore (N.C. State) who are expected to make significant contributions.
  • The Cajuns entered the season shorthanded, without the services of all-conference setter Siena DeCambra (season-ending injury) and a 300-200 kills-digs performer Shyia Richardson sidelined with injury.
  • Mio Yamamoto represented Louisiana on the 2024 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Volleyball team. Yamamoto was selected the Preseason SBC Libero of the Year; she claimed the award in 2023.
  • In the Sun Belt Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll, the Ragin' Cajuns were picked fourth in the West division.
