LEXINGTON, Kentucky - The Louisiana track and field team went a perfect 3-for-3 in NCAA National Championship bids on Friday at the East Regional in Lexington, Kentucky.
The 4x100 relay team got the day going, qualifying by placing second in the final heat at 39.42, advancing for the second straight year. Trejun Jones, Zakhy Munro, Floyd Pond, and Jamhad Booth had the 12th-best qualifying time at the event.
Javed Jones put his name at the top of the Louisiana record book, finishing fifth at 49.44, and setting a new school record in the process. The senior finished third in his heat just behind Chris Robinson of Alabama, the defending national champion, and Clement Ducos of Tennessee, who came into the night with the third-fastest time in the country.
After missing his first two jumps, Jeremy Nelson's personal best of 52-10.75/16.12 on his third and final jump punched his ticket to Eugene. Nelson broke his previous best by 1.5 feet and had the sixth-best jump in the field. Coming into the night, Nelson's best jump was the 47th-best in the nation.
