Louisiana Puts on Historic Performance at Final Day of SBC Outdoor Championships

The Cajuns scored their most combined points since 2002

MONROE, Louisiana - The Louisiana track and field team put on a show on the final day of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships, with the women finishing second and the men third at the Groseclose Track at Brown Stadium in Monroe, Louisiana. The Cajuns won three events on the day, set a school record, and set a meet record along the way.
 
The women finished the meet second behind Texas State with 115.7 points, their most points and highest finish since 1997. The 115.7 points was the fifth most at the conference championships in program history. 
 
The men took third for the second straight season with a score of 99. It marked back-to-back top-three finishes for the Ragin' Cajuns since the 2001-02 seasons.
 
The first gold of the day was claimed by the men's 4x100 relay squad. The quartet of Trejun Jones, Zahky Munro, Floyd Pond, and Jamhad Booth broke the SBC Championship meet and facility record with a time of 39.45.
 
Louisiana swept the 400H with Moseiha Bridgen and Javed Jones winning gold. Bridgen broke the school record and cruised to a win with a time of 57.69, finishing just ahead of teammate Ta'La Spates at 58.69. Jones won the 400H with a time of 51.10 and also placed second in the 400 with a time of 46.40.
 
The Cajuns took second in the triple jump thanks to Jeremy Nelson at 51-0.75/15.56. Montrell Morris also scored in the event with a jump of 48-6.25/14.79. On the women's side, Taylor Davis took fifth in the triple jump at 41-0.5/12.51, after placing third in the high jump at 5-8/1.73. She wasn't the only one to score in the high jump along with Kennedy Washington in seventh at 5-5.75/1.67 and Alaysha Veal in eighth at 5-3.75/1.62.
 
Peyton Chiasson earned another medal for the Cajuns with a third-place showing in the 1500 at 3:54.52 while Andrew Leck's time of 3:56.67 was good enough to finish fifth. Leck would later finish sixth in the 800 at 1:56.46.
 
In addition to running the anchor leg of the champion 4x100 team, Booth placed twice in other events. He took fourth, just 0.02 seconds behind first, in the 100 with a time of 10.29 before finishing fifth in the 200 at 21.25. Also scoring in the men's 200 was Chris Gravois in eighth place at 21.66.
 
Alexandra Johnson grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:10.89. In the 100H the Cajuns finished fifth, Kayla Meyers (14.08), and seventh, Kennedy London (14.14). The 110H saw Louisiana with a pair of scorers with Cole Palmer taking seventh (14.37) and Kobe Mendez eighth (14.38).
 
Two more Cajuns scored in the 100 as Amairi Ashford finished seventh (11.71) and Mari Robinson eighth (11.77). Kimola Hines scored in the discus with a throw of 160-5/48.91. Haley Salsbury also earned points in the 1500 for the Cajuns with a time of 4:40.62.
 
The women had a strong day in the relays. In the 4x100 they finished third with the team of Ashford, London, Robinson, and Spates finishing in 44.71, the second-fastest time in school history. They closed the day with the second-fastest 4x400 as Bridgen, Kenzie Touchet, Spates, and Johnson crossed the finish line at 3:42.18. The men finished fourth in the 4x400 with Antoni Hoyte-Small, Javed Jones, Jarell Joseph, and Darius Charles finishing in 3:08.75, a season-best.
 
Texas State narrowly edged the women's team for the SBC crown with 120.2 points. On the men's side, South Alabama won the title with 143 points while Texas State took second with 118.
