The Cajuns host Georgia State and Troy in their final two home contests of the season
LAFAYETTE, Louisiana - After two weeks on the road the Louisiana women's tennis team is back home this weekend at Cajun Courts. The Ragin' Cajuns are set to face Georgia State on Saturday before taking on Troy on Sunday.
Â
Louisiana took a detour on Wednesday and traveled to Lamar where they defeated the Cardinals, 4-0. Carla Urchoeguia picked up a pair of wins, giving her 11 between singles and doubles this year. She's tied with Nina Krecklenberg for the team lead in wins after Krecklenberg improved to 6-2 in singles play on Wednesday.Â
Â
Cristina Tchanichev has also had an impressive spring in singles with six wins, tied with Urchoeguia and Krecklenberg for the most singles wins on the team. Krecklenberg has been strong in doubles with fellow freshman Kamea Medora, going 4-1 this year.
Â
Georgia State is 5-12 on the year and struggled in Sun Belt Conference play, holding a 1-5 record. The Panthers had snapped a five-match losing streak two weeks ago against Southern Miss, winning 4-2, before losing last weekend to Troy, 5-2. Alba Retortillo and Maria Paredes lead the Panthers with seven singles wins each, while Paredes also has recorded seven doubles wins on the year.
Â
Troy has been hot, winning their last four matches, and are 5-2 in SBC play. The Trojans are 6-1 at home this spring but just 5-5 on the road. Gabrielle Leslie has been terrific for the Trojans, posting a 13-1 record in singles.
