Louisiana Faces Familiar Foe in Opening Round of SBC Championships

The Cajuns have won four of the last five in the series
ROME, Georgia - The Louisiana women's tennis team faces in-state rival ULM in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.Â

Louisiana has won four of the last five in the series, including a 5-2 win in Lafayette back in March.Â

The Cajuns handily won the doubles point in the March meeting and then took four of the six singles matches for the win in their SBC opener. Angelique Berrat closed the regular season strong with five wins in a row and finished tied for the team lead with seven singles wins. She matched the total by freshman Nina Krecklenberg who did most of her damage on court six with six wins.

ULM comes into the tournament at 1-19 after winning their first match of the season. The team has struggled down the stretch, failing to pick up a point in each of their last nine matches dating back to March 23. Angela Del Campo Suarez leads the team with four singles wins while Tamara Bachmann and Giovanna Pereira have three each.Â

The winner of this match advances to the second round where they will face Georgia Southern.Â
