Louisiana will face Georgia Southern tomorrow in the second round
ROME, Georgia - Strong singles play led the Louisiana women's tennis team to a 4-1 victory over ULM in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia.
Cristina Tchanichev and Karolina Skowronska earned a doubles win, 6-0, to start the afternoon, but the Warhawks came back to win on courts one and two for the point.
Louisiana turned it on in singles play. Carla Urchoeguia got the Cajuns on the board with a quick win on one, 6-1, 6-1. Moments later, Skowronska won her match, 6-2, 6-0, to put Louisiana in the lead. Nina Krecklenberg had little resistance in her, 6-1, 4-0, retired, victory on court five. Angelique Berrat clinched the match on court three with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
Louisiana advances to the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Championships. They'll face Georgia Southern with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m. It'll be the third meeting between the schools in the SBC Championships, with the Cajuns claiming a 4-3 win back in 2022.
