Cajuns Continue Big Spring with Strong Showing at Leon Johnson Invitational

The Cajuns had 12 first-place finishes and six new entries into the record book

NATCHITOCHES, Louisiana - The Louisiana track and field team had another big day on Saturday at the Leon Johnson Invitational in Natchitoches, Louisiana. The Cajuns had 12 first-place finishes and six new entries into the record book.
 
Kennedy Washington and Alaysha Veal both tied for the fourth-highest high jump in school history at 5-9.25. In the hammer, Marin Barras had the fifth-longest throw in school history at 172-7. Tyren Hannah moved to fifth all-time in the discus at 171-8. 
 
Ta'La Spates ran the fourth-fastest 400 as a Cajun with a time of 54.95. Moseiha Bridgen continued to put her name all over the record book with a time of 23.83 in the 200, seventh in school history. Javed Jones moved to sixth in the 400 with a time of 46.35 to round out the new entries to the record book.
 
Bridgen went on to win the 200 and was followed by Mari Robinson in third place. Louisiana's women swept the hurdle events. Kayla Meyers won the 100H with a time of 13.89 while in the 400H, Shenell Tucker was first at 1:04.21.
 
The women's throwers had a huge day. They took the top three spots in the javelin with Marin Barras (149-5), Sarah Dupuy (140-3), and Blair LaFleur (138-9) doing so. Barras would also take second in the hammer with her throw of 172-7, finishing behind teammate Lily Murray who threw 185-2 to win the event. Kimola Hines closed the day in the discus, taking first with a throw of 167-6. 
 
The Cajuns also claimed the top spot in the triple jump thanks to Reem Tammam's jump of 40-4.25. She finished just ahead of teammate Taylor Davis who was just shy of her at 40-1.5. In the pole vault, the women saw a pair of Cajuns place second with Cammi Martinez and Lauren Roberts clearing 11-10.
 
Top three finishes for the women also included Kennedy London's second-place showing in the 100 at 11.78 while the 4x100 relay team of London, Spates, Robinson, and Amairi Ashford came home in second.
 
Louisiana earned five wins on the men's side including Jones' performance in the 400. Cole Palmer won the 110H with a time of 14.00 with teammate Kobe Mendez placing third at 14.73. Teodor Borgius won the pole vault after clearing 16-1.25. Daunte Parish's throw of 174-2 in the javelin was good enough to win the event. The Cajuns went back-to-back in the triple jump with Montrell Morris (45-10.50) and Joshua Mason (45-2.25) representing them.
 
Federico Bovo had a good day in the high jump, placing second with a jump of 6-3.5. Trejun Jones took third in the 100 at 10.46 while Floyd Pond was third in the 200 at 20.88. The duo was part of the Cajun 4x100 relay team that finished second at 39.90 along with Zahky Munro and Chris Gravois.
 
Louisiana is back at it next weekend at the Auburn Invitational on Saturday, April 20.
