Louisiana broke the school record in the men’s 4x100 and the women’s 800

AUBURN, Alabama - The Louisiana track and field team broke two school records on a big Saturday as they approach the Sun Belt Conference Championships. The men broke the 4x100 relay record at the Auburn Invitational while Alexandra Johnson broke the women's 800 at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet.

The relay team of Trejun Jones, Zakhy Munro, Floyd Pond, and Jamhad Booth broke the 4x100 record with a time of 39.31. Jones and Booth were part of the relay squad that set the previous record of 39.38 at last year's NCAA National Championships.

Johnson's time of 2:08.97 put her at the top of the record book in the 800. She became just the second woman in program history, joining previous record-holder Kelci Lyons, to break 2:10 in the event.

The Cajun distance squad had a monster showing in Baton Rouge at the Alumni Gold Meet. Not far behind Johnson in the 800 was Haley Salsbury who finished in 2:12.36, the fifth fastest time in school history. Isabelle Russell had a big day with two top-five times. She ran the third fastest 1500 (4:33.66) before recording a 10:14.52 in the 3000, the fifth fastest time by a Cajun.

She wasn't the only record-setter in the 1500 on the day. Ella Segura (4:34.65) and Skylar Delgado (4:34.91) were right behind her with the fourth and fifth fastest times in Cajun history.

In the men's 1500, Louisiana had three top 10 scores. Peyton Chiasson became the fourth fastest man in the event with a time of 3:49.07. Andrew Leck was right behind him with the fifth-fastest time at 3:49.90. Reece Shelby is now seventh in school history at 3:50.77.

The last record-setting performances on the day belonged to John Walker McDonald and Nathan Fontan in the 3000. McDonald moved to number two in program history with a time of 8:40.55 while Fontan is third after running a time of 8:43.62.

Louisiana placed plenty on the podium with nine top-three finishes on the day. Kennedy Washington got the day going in the high jump at 5-8.5 to take first. She edged out teammate Alaysha Veal who cleared 5-6 for second.

In the men's long jump, Montrell Morris jumped 23-11 for second place and a new personal best. Jeremy Nelson took home first in the triple jump with a distance of 50-10.75. On the women's side, Taylor Davis' jump of 41-0.25 in the triple jump placed her third. Rounding out the top threes in field events was Lily Murray in the hammer with a throw of 180-6.

Two of the top three in the 100 were Cajuns with Amairi Ashford (12.00) and Mari Robinson (12.04) representing Louisiana. Rounding out the top three finishes was Federico Bovo in the 110H, coming in third at 14.40.

Next week the Cajuns head to Monroe, Louisiana for the final meet before the conference championships, to also take place in Monroe.
