Tulane Roars Back To Defeat Cajuns, 11-8

LAFAYETTE – Brady Marget, Teo Banks and Marcus Cline had two hits each and Tulane roared back with nine runs in its final three innings to claim a wild 11-8 victory over Louisiana in the opening game of a three-game series on Friday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
 
The second game of the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game will be streamed live on ESPN+ with fans able to listen to the game in the Lafayette area on KFTE-FM (105.1) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
 
Tulane (10-4) trailed 8-2 after six innings before back-to-back home runs in the seventh by Jackson Linn and Cline cut the Louisiana (6-7) lead to 8-5. The Green Wave plated four more times in the eighth and was capped when Connor Rasmussen and Adam Ebling scored on an error to give Tulane a 9-8 lead.
 
The Green Wave hit a pair of triples in the ninth as Banks drove in Colin Tuft with an RBI triple in the ninth before scoring on a fielder's choice.
 
Louisiana trailed 2-1 after the first inning, which saw a 30-minute rain delay after the second batter of the game. Maddox Mandino reached on a leadoff walk and moved to second on a ground out before scoring on a Green Wave throwing error.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns took the lead in the third as Kyle DeBarge's RBI single scored Mandino, John Taylor scored on a second throwing error and DeBarge scored on Bryan Broussard, Jr's sacrifice bunt.
 
Mason Zambo drove in two runs with a pinch-hit single in the sixth before Conor Higgs delivered a pinch-hit, two-run triple as Louisiana built an 8-2 lead.
 
Henry Shuffler (2-0) pitched 2.0 innings in relief with a pair of strikeouts before Jacob Moore pitched the final 2.0 innings to earn his first save of the season.
 
JT Etheridge (0-2) was charged with the loss for Louisiana. Starter LP Langevin, who dealt with a 30-minute rain delay after the second batter of the game, pitched a season-high 5.1 innings and fanned six batters for the Ragin' Cajuns before being lifted for Steven Cash in the sixth.
 
DeBarge and Trey LaFleur had two hits each as Louisiana collected 10 hits and stranded seven runners.
