The Ragin’ Cajuns have won seven straight and nine of their last 10
TROY, Alabama - Reminiscent of their epic win over Troy last season, the Louisiana men's tennis team outlasted the Trojans, 4-3, on Saturday. The win marked the seventh in a row for the Cajuns, the longest active streak in the Sun Belt Conference.
Rain delayed the start of the match by nearly four hours. Despite the 5-2 lead by Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez and Sacha Grandvincent on court one in doubles, the home side pulled it out on the other two courts for the point and early lead.
Oriol Fillat Gimenez got the Cajuns on the board with a 6-3, 6-1 win on five and Samuel Kyjaci followed shortly after with a 6-3, 6-3 win on four. Leonard Tramolay gutted out a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4) win, coming from down 5-2 in the third set. The win put Louisiana ahead 3-2, with the matches on two and three to be finished. The Trojans grabbed the match on two to tie the score and left it all to court three.
Court three went point-for-point deep into the third set before Vasil Dimitrov came away victorious, 7-6 (7-4), 5-7, 7-5, to clinch the match. It was Dimitrov's seventh singles win in a row while Fillat Gimenez extended his winning streak to five straight matches.
Louisiana has another tough road match tomorrow morning against South Alabama with first serve scheduled for 10 a.m. from Mobile.
