The Cajuns head to Old Dominion on Friday
MOBILE, Alabama - A day after a thrilling win over Troy, the Louisiana men's tennis team fell to South Alabama, 4-1, in Mobile, Alabama. The defeat ended the team's seven-match winning streak, their longest streak since winning 14 straight two seasons ago.
Doubles were deadlocked early before Oriol Fillat Gimenez and Alejo Ferrer Chueca broke through for the 6-3 win on court three. The Cajun lead wouldn't hold as the home team won on courts one and two to take the doubles point, both by 6-4 scores.
Shifting to singles, Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez cruised to a court one win, 6-0, 6-2, to get Louisiana on the board. The Jaguars took the matches on courts two and four to take the 3-1 lead.
Louisiana wouldn't go down without a fight with the second set on three, five, and six all needing a tiebreaker to be decided. Oriol Fillat Gimenez won his second set tiebreaker to force a third set on court six, while on court three William Ribero took the opening set before falling in the second. Those matches were prepared to go to a decisive third set when the Jaguars pulled it out on court five, besting Samuel Kyjaci, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8), to clinch the match.
The Ragin' Cajuns head to Virginia next weekend for their final two road contests of Sun Belt Conference play. They open the week at Old Dominion on Friday before taking on James Madison on Saturday.
