Louisiana set a program record in the women's 4x800-meter relay

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana - It was a banner day for the Louisiana track and field team with 47 podium finishes and a set school record at the Louisiana Classics on Saturday at the Home Bank Soccer & Track Complex.

The Ragin' Cajuns broke the record in the women's 4x800 relay at 9:16.92. Skylar Delgado, Abbey Marie Ratcliff, Ella Segura, and Caroline Spalitta broke the previous record set in 2003 by seven seconds. Louisiana rewrote the record books all afternoon, posting 11 new top-10 scores. Lily Murray also set the school-record in the hammer throw with a distance of 184-10.

The team won 12 events on the day, with the women claiming five to the men's seven.

The women had 10 of the new top scores including the 4x800 record. Ratcliff won the 5K to start the day with the fifth-best time in school history at 17:38.84. Right behind her was Isabelle Russell in second at 17:40.22, the seventh fastest time in the school record books.

The women continued with the fast times. Kennedy London became the sixth fastest Cajun in the 100H with a time of 13.45, winning the event. Not far behind her was Moseiha Bridgen with the 10th fastest 100H at 13.78 in Louisiana history.

Amairi Ashford won the 100 at 11.62 for the eighth fastest time in program history. Quincy Simon also recorded the eighth fastest 400 in school history with a time of 55.48. In field events, Kimola Hines won the discus with a throw of 164 ft. 6 in., the fourth longest for Louisiana. Ashley McMillin's third-place throw of 156 ft. 2 in. moved her into fifth place in the school record books. Marin Barras finished fifth in the hammer, but her throw of 166 ft. 11 in. was the seventh-longest in program history.

Both 4x100 relay squads put their names in the books as well with the eighth fastest time for both. The women's squad of Ashford, London, Mari Robinson, and Ta'La Spates crossed the finish line at 45.35 and finished second in the event. The men's team of Jamhad Booth, Chris Gravois, Trejun Jones, and Zakhi Munro cruised to a win in the event with a time of 39.83.

The men swept the three relays on the day, also winning the 4x400 (3:09.56) and 4x800 (7:47.69) to cap off a huge day in sprints. Jones won the 100 at 10.41, with Booth right behind him at 10.50. Jones thought he had the 200 won as well with a blazing time of 20.95 after the first heat, but Munro's 20.85 bested him and set a new personal record.

Cole Palmer took home first in the 110H at 14.15 while Javed Jones claimed first in the 400H at 51.83. Jeremy Nelson also had a big day with a win in the long jump at 24 ft. 1.5 in. before finishing the day second in the triple jump at 48 ft. 11.75 in.
