Louisiana Rack Up 14 Podium Finishes in Birmingham

Next up for the team is the SBC Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama- In their final tune-up before the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships, the Louisiana track and field team was on the podium all day at the South Alabama Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama. A total of 14 spots on the podium were reserved by the Cajuns, including a pair of first-place finishes.
 
Haley Salsbury had a big day, beginning with a win in the mile run. She finished with a time of 5:05.76 and followed that performance with a fifth-place showing in the 3k at 10:21.27. Fellow distance runner Isabelle Russell also had a strong day. She recorded a second-place finish in the 5k at 17:50.85 before taking fourth in the 5k, nearly five seconds faster than Salsbury.
 
Kennedy Washington recorded the other win on the day, clearing 5 feet 6.5 inches in the high jump in a jump-off. The Cajuns also had a strong performance in the long jump placing second in both the men's and women's events. Shemia Odaine took it for the women with a jump of 19 feet 0.75 inches while Montrell Morris jumped 23 feet 7.5 inches for his second-place showing.
 
Chris Gravois saw his name on the podium twice. He started the day with a 6.82 in the 60-meter to finish second before clocking in at 21.63 in the 200-meter for a third-place finish. In the men's 60-meter hurdles, Cole Palmer finished third with a time of 8.14.
 
Juliana Courville took second in the 800-meter at 2:15.85. Closing out the podium finishes on the women's side was Lily Murray in the weight throw with a distance of 57 feet 11.75 inches.
 
Not to be outdone in the weight throw, Tyren Hannah finished second on the men's side with a throw of 64 feet 1.75 inches. In the pole vault, Teodor Borgius and Nick Russell tied for second after clearing 15 feet 7.75 inches. Reece Shelby also had a strong showing in the men's mile, placing third with a time of 4:15.06.
 
Next up for the Cajuns is the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships beginning Monday, February 19 from the Birmingham Crossplex.
