Louisiana Opens Play Friday at Astros Foundation College Classic

Ragin' Cajuns face Vanderbilt, LSU, Houston in three-game tournament
HOUSTON – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team makes its fifth appearance in the Astros Foundation College Classic beginning on Friday when it faces No. 9-ranked Vanderbilt at Minute Maid Park.

Louisiana (5-3) opens the three-day event against Vanderbilt before facing in-state rival and reigning national champion LSU (8-1) at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday. The Ragin' Cajuns will close out the six-team tournament on Sunday facing the University of Houston at 7:05 p.m.

First pitch for Friday's opener is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. All games can be heard in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.

All games of the Astros Foundation College Classic will be streamed live on Astros.com and on the Astros X, Facebook and YouTube channels. All games will be televised by Space City Home Network and available on the channel in the entirety of the Astros five-state viewing area of Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.

The Louisiana-LSU game on Saturday will air live on MLB Network (blacked out in the Astros viewing area of Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, Oklahoma and New Mexico).

• Louisiana makes its fifth appearance in the Astros Foundation College Classic (formerly the Shriner's Children's Classic) as it faces Vanderbilt, LSU and Houston in the 24th annual event at Houston's Minute Maid Park.
• The Ragin' Cajuns have appeared in the Astros Foundation College Classic in 2002 (2-1), 2003 (0-3), 2016 (1-2) and 2018 (1-2).
• Saturday's matchup against in-state rival LSU is the only regular-season meeting in 2024 between the schools and the first-ever outside of the state of Louisiana in a series which dates back to 1912.
• Louisiana is 1-0 against Vanderbilt with the previous meeting occurring at Minute Maid Park in 2018. The Ragin' Cajuns trail the series against LSU (57-28) and Houston (40-16-1).
• Louisiana head coach Matt Deggs is a native of Texas City with five of the eight Texans on the Ragin' Cajuns roster hailing from the Houston area.
