Louisiana Opens Final Road Swing at ULM

2/21/2024 3:58:00 PM | Men's Basketball

The Ragin’ Cajuns have won six straight in the series

MONROE, Louisiana – Just four games remain in the regular season for the Louisiana men's basketball team as they look to lock down a top-four seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Cajuns sit fourth in the league standings as they open the week with ULM in Monroe, Louisiana.

Louisiana had a four-game road winning streak snapped at league-leading App State last Saturday. A cold second half led to a Mountaineer comeback and an 85-73 final. Hosana Kitenge capped off a monster week for Louisiana with 23 points and 13 rebounds. The junior is averaging 15.2 points and 12.0 rebounds over his last five games, recording four double-doubles in that same span.

The Warhawks have won six of their last nine over the last month of action. Louisiana snapped a three-game ULM winning streak back on January 31, and another loss followed before the Warhawks once again won three straight before a loss at Troy on Saturday. Nika Metskhvarishvili leads the team in scoring at 12.0 per game while Tyreke Locure is right behind him at 11.0 points per game.

Story Lines
• Head coach Bob Marlin looks to become the first coach in Sun Belt Conference history with 150 wins in Sun Belt action. Thursday will be the 250th Sun Belt game coached by Marlin.
• Louisiana's seven wins away from home are the second most in the SBC, trailing only James Madison (10) and App State (9).
• The Cajuns are 5-7 in true road games this season. Those seven losses have come against teams a combined 88-10 (.898) on their home floor.
Hosana Kitenge has been on fire for Louisiana. The junior has recorded a double-double in three straight games and in four of the last five. Since the start of SBC play, the junior is averaging 14.4 points and 79 rebounds, both the second-best marks on the team.
• Louisiana leads the nation in three-point field goal defense, holding teams to just .265 percent from deep.
• The Ragin' Cajuns lead the SBC with 18 double-doubles on the year. They are 1 of 18 teams to record that many. They are also one of 17 schools with two players with five or more double-doubles this season.
• Louisiana looks to complete their fourth season sweep of an opponent this season. ULM is the only one of the team's six repeat opponents that the Cajuns first played at home.
