Cajuns compete in first of six events during spring portion of 2023-24 schedule

MOBILE, Ala. – After posting four top-5 finishes in five events during the fall portion of its 2023-24 schedule, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team officially tees off the spring portion of its schedule on Monday when it opens play in the Hal Williams Collegiate at Magnolia Grove Crossing Golf Club.

The two-day, 54-hole tournament will start with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Monday with the 14-team field playing 36 holes. The final round is slated for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. Live results will be available at RaginCajuns.com.

The Ragin' Cajuns, ranked No. 109 in the Clipped.com rankings, are part of a field which features five teams ranked in the top 75 and includes three Sun Belt Conference teams – host South Alabama, Southern Miss and Texas State. Defending champion and nationally-ranked Illinois (No. 20), LSU (No. 33), VCU (No. 56), Kent State (No. 66) and Kansas State (No. 69) are the top-ranked teams playing on the par-71, 7,168-yard course.

Also participating in the spring opener is Davidson, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Oral Roberts and Seton Hall.

Louisiana, which finished 13th in last year's event on the Robert Trent Jones course, returns to the course for its first competitive event since Oct. 26-28 when it finished 12th overall in a rugged 20-team Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational. The Ragin' Cajuns opened the 2023-24 campaign with a first-place finish at Louisiana Tech's Argent Financial Classic before fourth-place performances at the GMAC Invitational and USF Invitational.

Junior Burke Alford will man the No. 1 spot in the lineup for Louisiana. The junior posted a 72.27 scoring average in the fall for the Ragin' Cajuns which was capped by a career-low 5-under-par 208 at the Ka'anapali Classic.

Malan Potgieter, who posted a 71.33 scoring average and recorded four top-20 finishes in the fall, will be slotted in the No. 2 spot in Louisiana's five-man lineup with Maximilian Feistmantl making his season-debut and playing in the No. 3 position.

Eli Ortego, the scoring average leader (70.33) for Louisiana, will play in the No. 4 slot for the Ragin' Cajuns with Jake Marler (72.33) manning the No. 5 spot. Freshman Dillon Barnard (76.00) will make his second appearance of the season and will compete individually.
