Cajuns Battle Wind And Rain In Opening Round In Mobile

Field to complete second round, play final round on Tuesday
MOBILE, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team battled wind and rain in a delayed start to the 2024 season with play suspended due to darkness on the opening day of the Hal Williams Collegiate on Monday at Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Club.
The final day of the 54-hole event is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m., with the completion of the second round before the final 18 holes. Live stats will be available by accessing the Golf schedule page at RaginCajuns.com.
Louisiana opened the day with a 6-over-par 290 – just its second team score of 290 or greater in 16 rounds overall during the 2023-24 season. The Ragin' Cajuns were at 9-over in the second round before play was suspended with four holes remaining.
Junior Burke Alford posted an opening round score of 1-under-70 to lead Louisiana with Malan Potgieter shooting an even-par 71. Jake Marler recorded a 3-over-74 in the opening round for the Ragin' Cajuns with Maximilian Feistmantl tying a career-low round of 4-over-75 and Eli Ortego a 5-over-76. Freshman Dillon Barnard, competing as an individual, fired a 4-over-par 75 in his spring debut.
Illinois finished as the team leader at 16-under-par when play was suspended with VCU three strokes back at -13.
