The Ragin’ Cajuns battled back to defeat the defending Pac-12 regular season champs
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico - The Louisiana men's tennis earned a major win on Saturday in Albuquerque, New Mexico by knocking off Utah, 4-2.
The Utes got off to a strong start by taking the doubles point by winning on courts one and two by identical 6-4 scores. On court three, Oriol Fillat Gimenez and Mason Landreth held a 5-4 lead before the match went unfinished.
Leonard Tramolay got the Cajuns on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 court six victory. The Utes bounced back to retake the lead after defeating Samuel Kyjaci on court one, 6-4, 6-3. Vasil Dimitrov tied the match again with a court four win, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
Fillat Gimenez picked up a court five win, 6-3, 6-4, putting the Cajuns on the verge of defeating the defending Pac-12 regular season champions. Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez and William Ribero each went to a third set needing just one of them to pull it out for the win. Sanchez Gonzalez pulled it out, 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, for the crucial victory.
Next week the Cajuns head to Corpus Christi, Texas for the H-E-B Tournament of Champions starting Friday.
