LAFAYETTE – For the 100th time the Louisiana men's basketball team takes on McNeese when the schools meet on Sunday in the Cajundome. 

It'll be the head coaching debut for Derrick Zimmerman, who was named the interim head coach after the departure of Bob Marlin. Louisiana picked up a big win on Wednesday, their Sun Belt Conference opener. The Ragin' Cajuns held off defending regular season champion App State, 68-62, for their third win of the season.

Mostapha El Moutaouakkil led the offense with 15 points and eight rebounds. Kyran Ratliff added 10 points and 10 rebounds, his second double-double of the year. 

The Cajuns have won two of the last three as they close a six-game homestand. They'll be off until January 2 when they hit the road to face Coastal Carolina.

• Louisiana won their Sun Belt Conference opener on Wednesday, holding off defending regular season champion App State 68-61 in the Cajundome. Mostapha El Moutaouakkil led the offense with 15 points and eight rebounds. Kyran Ratliff recorded his second double-double of the year with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
• The Cajuns have won 25 of the last 28 against the Southland Conference but are 1-2 this season against the league. Louisiana had won eight straight in the series before McNeese's 74-72 victory in Lake Charles last season.
• Senior Kentrell Garnett made the 200th three-pointer of his Cajun career last Saturday, becoming the seventh player in program history to reach that mark. Next up on the all-time list is Michael Allen at 208.
 • Through the season's first 12 games, the Ragin' Cajuns have played the most difficult schedule in the SBC per NET Ranking. The average opponent's NET ranking this season is 148, followed by James Madison at 154.
Derrick Zimmerman is coaching his first game as the interim head coach of the Ragin' Cajuns. Zimmerman took over the program on Thursday after the departure of Bob Marlin.
• The Cajuns close a six-game homestand on Sunday, their longest since the 2020-21 season.
