Kyndall Davis led the offense with 11 points
LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana men's basketball team struggled offensively on Saturday against Lamar in the Cajundome. The team shot 14-for-53, 26.4 percent, from the field in a 74-45 defeat.
Kyndall Davis and Brandon Hardy were the only players to crack double figures. Davis led the way with 11 points and four rebounds while Hardy finished the game with 10. Kentrell Garnett added nine points and hit the 200th three-pointer of his Cajun career, becoming the seventh player in program history to reach that number.
Louisiana opened the scoring a minute into the contest with a pair of free throws by Christian Wright but then the Cardinals scored the next seven. Davis stopped the run with a three but Lamar scored the next five to lead 12-5. Garnett hit a three and Jeremiah Evans followed with a layup to bring Louisiana within three. Michael Thomas connected on a jumper to make it 16-15 but a 15-3 run by the visitors pushed their lead to double digits.
After the half, the offense still couldn't find a rhythm. Louisiana went 7-for-26 from the field in the final 20 minutes as Lamar shot 16-for-27 in the half to put this game out of reach.
Louisiana opens Sun Belt Conference play next Wednesday at 7 p.m. against App State at home.
