Rested Ragin’ Cajuns tackle Mobile to kick off Tuesday night doubleheader

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team is back in action following a 10-day break when the squad hosts Mobile on Tuesday, November 19 at 5:00 p.m. inside the Cajundome.

The Ragin' Cajuns-Rams contest is the first half of a doubleheader that'll be followed by the Louisiana men's squad vs. Rice.

Louisiana (1-1) seeks its first winning streak of the season as it continues a four-game homestand that started with a 74-50 win over Loyola (La.) back on November 8. Mobile (4-2) will count the contest as an exhibition.

Admission to Tuesday's game – and all UL Women's Basketball games throughout the entire season – is free and open to the public.

The UL Women's Basketball program is hosting a Faculty and Staff Night for all University employees, with those presenting their Cajun Cards at the marketing table receiving office supplies. It's also UL LIFE Program Night with members invited to participate in a pregame high-five-tunnel and a halftime recognition.

BOUNCE PASSES
  • After a 10-day break, Louisiana resumes play in its four-game homestand returning to the court on Tuesday.
  • Tuesday's matchup with Mobile marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
  • UL opened the homestand, which runs through Thanksgiving, on November 8 with a 74-50 win over Loyola.
  • The Loyola win put UL in the win column and allowed the squad to bounce back from a heartbreaking 57-55 loss to Northern Illinois (deciding basket in final 30 seconds) in the season opener.
  • Rutgers transfer Erica Lafayette starred in her official Cajundome debut, scoring a career-high 24 points sparked by 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range vs. Loyola.
  • UL is led by a trio averaging double-digits: Lanay Wheaton (15.5), Erica Lafayette (15.0) and Tamiah Robinson (10.5).
  • Two games in, the Cajuns are averaging 14.0 offensive rebounds while yielding only six per game.
  • The season opener at Northern Illinois was the only game outside the state of Louisiana until the Dec. 29 SBC opener at Georgia Southern. UL is currently in a stretch where nine straight games (six at home) are in the state.
  • The Cajuns (17-14, 10-8 SBC in 2023-24) are coming off their fifth consecutive winning season, which marks the longest stretch in program history, capped off by a run to the SBC Championship tournament semifinals.
  • UL led the SBC in scoring defense – and ranked Top 60 nationally – holding foes below 60ppg the last two seasons.
  • Louisiana is one of the more experienced teams in the country with a combined nine players who are either a graduate or senior.
  • SBC Championship all-tournament selection Tamiah Robinson, the team leader in assists (69) last season, now takes full control of the point guard position.
  • Erica Lafayette (Rutgers) and Kamryn Jones (Houston) are a pair of P5 transfers expected to have a significant impact. The duo turned in 20-point double-doubles in the exhibition contest.
  • Louisiana was picked 5th in the SBC preseason poll and Jaylyn James (12.1 ppg in SBC play) was a preseason all-conference selection.

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
Louisiana welcomes Nicholls to the Cajundome on Friday, November 22 for the third of four games on the current homestand. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

The Ragin' Cajuns and Colonels meet at the Cajundome for the second straight season. Back in November 2023, Louisiana erased a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter to force overtime and captured a 69-63 win.

Live coverage of the matchup with Nicholls is available on ESPN+ and The Goat 103.3 FM/1420 AM.
