Ortego posts top-20 finish as Louisiana places 10th overall

TULSA, Okla. – Eli Ortego recorded his second top-20 finish of the season and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team concluded the fall portion of its 2024-25 season with a 10th-place showing at The Clerico on Tuesday at the Oaks Country Club.
 
Ortego, who finished tied for 16th overall, posted a final round score of 6-over-par 76 on the par-70, 6,950-yard course for his 16th career top-20 performance. Malan Potgieter finished tied for 34th for Louisiana after at 12-over-222 (76-74-72-222) with Burke Alford tied for 38th at 223 (75-75-73-223)
 
Newcomer Jean Louis du Plessis placed tied for 50th overall for the Ragin' Cajuns at 225 (76-76-73-225) with Carter Schmitt one stroke back at 226 (72-78-76-226).
 
No. 30-ranked Northwestern claimed the team title with a team score of 12-over-852. Host Oral Roberts was eight shots back at 860 with No. 18 Duke (865) third, UTEP (867) fourth, and a three-way logjam between Little Rock (875), New Mexico (875) and Santa Clara (875) for fifth.
 
Northwestern's Cameron Adam, one of two golfers to finish at par or below in the 54-hole event, claimed medalist honors with a 3-under-207.
 
Louisiana will return to play on February 17, 2025 when it opens play in the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.
