Ragin’ Cajuns overtaken by Jaguars precise attack
MOBILE, Ala. – South Alabama's offense took the fast track to a decided match lead and claimed a 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-22) win over the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team on Thursday, October 24 in the opening match of a Sun Belt Conference series at Jaguar Gym in Mobile, Alabama.

The Jaguars (11-8, 7-2 SBC) scored 32 kills against only one error over the first two sets in opening a 2-0 match lead over the Ragin' Cajuns (6-12, 2-5 SBC). USA ended the night with an ultra-efficient .386 hitting percentage (48-6-110).

Louisiana was unable to get its blocking untracked, finishing the match with only three stuffs. The Ragin' Cajuns had only one block against the Jaguars' hot hand in the opening two sets preventing any change of momentum leading to a pair of double-digit margins.

UL gained its composure in Set 3 and didn't allow the Jaguars to break free from a back-and-forth start that was similar to the opening stanza. Knotted at 8-all, the Cajuns got a combined four kills from Cailin Demps and Lauryn Hill during a six-point run that opened a 14-8 lead.

Later it was Hill and Demps going back-to-back for kills to stretch the lead to 21-18 and put Louisiana in a position to potentially extend the match. Paced by four kills and a pair of key blocks the Jaguars would end the set on a 7-1 run to turn the Cajuns away.

South Alabama picked up its sixth consecutive win over Louisiana dating back to the 2021 season.

Cami Hicks had a hand in two blocks to push her season total over the century mark. Now at 101 blocks, it's the third consecutive 100-blocks season for the graduate middle blocker.
