Louisiana Enters Second Half of SBC Play in Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team visits South Alabama for a two-match Sun Belt Conference divisional series at Jaguar Gym in Mobile, Alabama starting on Thursday, October 24.

The Ragin' Cajuns (6-11, 2-4 SBC), coming off strong defensive play at the net last weekend at Troy, face the Jaguars (10-8, 6-2 SBC) at 6:00 p.m. on both Thursday and Friday night. Both matches will be shown live on ESPN+.

During last week's conference action, Louisiana led the SBC in blocks per set (3.5) and total blocks (28) while at Troy. They will attempt to match USA's unit which tops the charts in conference play both in blocks per set (2.9) and total blocks (89).

The USA series is part of six SBC West matches remaining for Louisiana, currently in sixth place in the division, as the team seeks to gain ground in the race for a spot in the November 21-24 conference championship tournament.

One week after visiting Troy, the Ragin' Cajuns are back in the state of Alabama to wrap up an October-ending, four-match road stretch.
Louisiana and South Alabama continue a long-standing rivalry, the two programs having met every season dating back to 1989.
The Cajuns seek to break South's five-match win streak in the series, last topping the Jags in 2020.
It's a battle of two of the SBC's top blocking units – both the Cajuns and Jags having topped 150 blocks and both averaging at least 2.2 blocks per set this season.
Louisiana has played through 393 ties and 151 lead changes this season, lending to a deceiving record.
Led by Cami Hicks' 2.1 blocks per set (17 total), Louisiana threw up an average of 3.5 blocks per set (28 total) at Troy – out-blocking the Trojans 28-7 in the series.
UL's defense eclipsed 100 digs both nights of the Southern Miss series (Oct. 10-11), totaling 228 digs (25.3/set). The team ranks No. 2 in digs per set in SBC play (18.3/set).
Now at 451 career blocks, Cami Hicks is the program's rally scoring era leader in career blocks and is the only Ragin' Cajun to reach 400 career blocks in the rally era.
Cami Hicks leads the SBC in blocks per set both overall (1.46) and in conference play (1.60).
Cailin Demps found her footing the final week of non-conference play, scoring 45 kills (3.5/set). She heads to Mobile with 202 kills, a new personal single-season best (topping 192 as a freshman at Southern Miss).
Libero Mio Yamamoto has posted ten 20-plus dig efforts this season and 20 total in the Cajuns uniform.
Lauryn Hill has joined Cailin Demps in charging the offense in SBC play, her 66 kills right behind Demps' 68.
The Cajuns entered the season shorthanded, without the services of all-conference setter Siena DeCambra (season-ending injury) and a 300-200 kills-digs performer Shyia Richardson sidelined with injury.
Mio Yamamoto represented Louisiana on the 2024 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Volleyball team. Yamamoto was selected the Preseason SBC Libero of the Year; she claimed the award in 2023.

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
The Ragin' Cajuns return home to E.K. Long Gym to continue division play in the Sun Belt Conference hosting Arkansas State from Friday-Saturday, November 1-2.

Louisiana and Arkansas State are scheduled to open the two-match series at 6:00 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 1), then conclude play on Saturday (Nov. 2) in a 1:00 p.m. contest. The matches are being broadcast on ESPN+.

The UL Volleyball program will be conducting a canned food drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank throughout the series with the Red Wolves.
