For the second year in a row, a Cajun doubles team reached the Round of 16
BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – The doubles pairing of William Ribero and Leonard Tramolay reached the Round of 16 at the ITA Southern Regional Championships in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Last year the doubles team of Vasil Dimitrov and Mason Landreth reached the same round. Four players also represented Louisiana in the singles main draw.
After winning by retirement in the opening round, Ribero and Tramolay won a thrilling 8-7 (7-5) match over Noah Martens and Yeray Andres Pastor of Sun Belt Conference rival Troy. The duo was eventually bounced from the event by Damien Nezar and Roan Jones from Alabama, 8-3. Oriol Fillat Gimenez and William Jade picked up a first round win after knocking off another pairing from the SBC, Victor Frumholz and Harold van Raemdonck of South Alabama, 8-2. That duo would fall 8-5 to Alesso Vasquez Gehrke and Rudy Ceccon of LSU.
Tramolay got the weekend going with a pair of wins in qualifying to advance to the singles main draw. The sophomore held off Gordon Whitwell of Ole Miss and Tulane's Asaf Friedler in straight sets. Fillat Gimenez was the lone Cajun to advance out of the opening round. The senior earned a 6-0, 6-4 win over Martens from Troy before falling to Zach Foster of Alabama in three sets. Tramolay, Ribero, and Dimitrov all competed in the main draw, falling in their opening match.
Louisiana cleaned up in consultation matches, going a combined 14-7. Landreth led the Ragin' Cajuns with three wins while Darius Balan, Dimitrov, Jade, Samuel Kyjaci, and Calin Postea all earned two wins.
Louisiana heads to Birmingham, Alabama next weekend for the Country Club of Birmingham Collegiate Invite beginning Friday, October 25.
