Trio of Cajuns Earn First Wins at Houston

Kamea Medora led the way with a pair of wins
HOUSTON, Texas – Three members of the Louisiana women's tennis team, Kamea Medora, Paige Duncan, and Karolina Skowronska earned their first wins as a Cajun in the team's spring opener at Houston. Despite the wins, it wasn't enough for the Cajuns to overcome the Cougars and fell in a closely contested match, 4-3.
Things were tight in doubles, with all three matches coming down to a handful of points. Medora and Paige took the first match on court two, 6-4, and looked to take the point. The Cougars took the contest on court one, 7-5, holding off Carla Urchoeguia and Angelique Berrat, leaving court three to decide doubles. Louisiana couldn't pull it out, dropping the match on court three, 6-4, and the doubles point to the home team.
The Cougars jumped out to take the first two singles matches on courts one and six before the Cajuns battled back. Skowronska got Louisiana on the board with a 7-5, 6-4 victory on five. Medora won her match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, giving her a pair of wins on the day. Cristina Tchanichev was victorious in three sets, after dropping the first, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, but the Cougars took court three to clinch the match.
The Cajuns are home this Thursday to face Southern at Cajun Courts. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m. in Lafayette.
