Louisiana Opens the Spring at Houston

The Ragin’ Cajuns look to improve on their eight wins last spring
HOUSTON, Texas – The Louisiana women's tennis team opens the spring season on Sunday at Houston. The Cajuns and Cougars are slated for first serve at 11 a.m. in what is both team's first contest of the spring.
Louisiana won eight matches a year ago, with six of those coming at home. The Cougars got the better of the Cajuns last year in Lafayette by a score of 4-1. This will be Louisiana's first match at Houston since 2021.
Back for the Cajuns from last season are Angelique Berrat, Cristina Tchanichev, and Carla Urchoeguia. The trio combined to win 27 matches and accounted for .659 percent of their singles wins.
Berrat won a total of 20 matches a year ago, 10 in singles and 10 in doubles, to lead the team. She was paired all season with Urchoeguia on court one for doubles where they went 10-6. Urchoeguia won seven singles contests, splitting time on courts one and two. Tchanichev went 9-6 on court four and won 10 matches overall in singles.
Last year the Cougars finished 14-9 and advanced to the second round of the American Athletic Conference playoffs. They went 8-3 at home and went 3-0 against Sun Belt schools, also defeating Texas State and ULM.
