Ragin’ Cajuns Hit the Road for the Final Time in 2023

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana women's tennis team hits the road for the last time in 2023 to take on Georgia State and Troy.  They'll face Georgia State on Sunday, April 9 in Atlanta, Georgia before heading to Troy, Alabama on Monday.

The Ragin' Cajuns split their matches last week but Cristina Tchanichev and Momoko Yoshimura each picked up a pair of singles victories.  Carla Urchoeguia had a big week, winning three of her four matches on court one.  On Sunday, Urchoeguia and partner Angelique Berrat earned a 6-0 sweep in doubles.

The week opens at Georgia State, who has greatly struggled this spring to a 1-13 record.  The lone win came on March 11 against Southern Miss, but the Panthers have lost four in a row since.  Despite the struggles, Eva Chivu has performed well on court one with a 6-4 record.

The team will travel to Troy on Monday after Saturday's match was moved due to impending weather.  The Trojans are just one spot ahead of the Cajuns in eighth place in the SBC.  They began the season winning six of their first seven matches but have gone just 3-3 in conference action.  Hagar Ramadan-Amin leads them with 10 wins this season while Franziska Ahrend and Kristina Kukaras are right behind her with nine wins each.  Kukaras has also dominated doubles play with 11 wins to only one loss this spring.
