Louisiana Hosts Sixth-Ranked Chanticleers In SBC Baseball

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team returns to action on Friday when it opens a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against No. 6-ranked Coastal Carolina at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
The series opens on Friday in a 6 p.m. contest before resuming on Saturday at 4 p.m. The final game of the three-game series is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday. All three games will be streamed live on ESPN+ with fans able to listen to the games in the Lafayette area on KPEL-FM (96.5) and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
Louisiana (28-15, 10-8 SBC) rebounded from a three-game sweep last week at James Madison with a pair of midweek victories beginning with a 10-5 win over Southern. The Ragin' Cajuns followed with an impressive 15-3 win over Northwestern State, recording 16 hits with five going for extra bases.
Heath Hood (.361-4-28), Kyle DeBarge (.351-4-25), Julian Brock (.336-9-47), Carson Roccaforte (.318-2-29) and John Taylor (.301-6-31) are the top regulars in the lineup for Louisiana. Conor Higgs, who has been in the starting lineup in the Ragin' Cajuns last six games, is hitting .426 overall with five home runs and 19 RBI.
Right-hander Cooper Rawls (9-0, 2.62 ERA) will start in Friday's opener for Louisiana with Coastal Carolina (26-13, 13-5 SBC) sending right-hander Matthew Potok (3-2, 5.49 ERA) to the hill.
Jackson Nezuh (6-3, 7.79 ERA) will earn the start in Saturday's contest with the Chanticleers countering with right-hander Jacob Morrison (5-0, 5.36 ERA). Both teams have not announced a starter for Sunday's finale.
Coastal Carolina, hitting .319 as a team, has three players – Caden Bodine (.379-5-26), Payton Eeles (.377-3-27) and Zack Beach (.373-11-41) – hitting above .370 on the season. Derek Bender (.347-14-61) leads the team in both home runs and RBI with Graham Brown (.327-11-41) and Chad Born (.318-6-27) hitting above .315.
