Late Score Lifts SLU Past Louisiana In Midweek Baseball, 5-4

Bryce Grizzaffi and Tyler Finke posted three hits each while Connor Manola was 2-for-4 as SLU (17-16) opened a nine-game homestand by snapping a six-game losing skid. Louisiana, which was held to seven hits by six Lion pitchers, had its six-game win streak snapped and fell to 24-10 overall.
Louisiana got out of the gates fast as it needed two pitches to take a 1-0 lead on Max Marusak's leadoff homer to left off SLU starter Aaron Hosack. Ben Robichaux and Heath Hood each followed with singles before Robichaux scored on Carson Roccaforte's sacrifice fly to give the Ragin' Cajuns a 2-0 lead.
SLU quickly tied the game at 2-2 in the first as Finke drove in Dane Watts on an RBI double into the left-field corner before scoring in Shea Thomas' fielder's choice. The Lions took a 3-2 lead in the second on Finke's RBI single before Grizzaffi drove in McGwire Turner with a single in the fourth.
The Ragin' Cajuns added a run in the fourth when Roccaforte was hit by a pitch and scored on Conor Higgs' two-out double to left.
Louisiana loaded the bases to open the sixth inning as Roccaforte singled to right, Julian Brock singled through the right side and John Taylor drew a walk. Pinch-hitter Mason Zambo then tied the game when his sacrifice fly scored Roccaforte, but SLU reliever Reid Reynolds would get a grounder back to the mound before getting a strikeout to end the inning.
Steven Cash (0-1), the third of four pitchers used by Louisiana, opened the seventh inning fanning Champ Artigues and Clay Cook before Salvaggio hit an opposite-field home run to give the Lions a 5-4 lead.
Lance Lauve earned the save after fanning his only batter of the game while Connor Spencer (1-0) earned the victory after tossing 1.2 innings of hitless relief.
Cash dropped his first collegiate decision in his third career appearance for Louisiana after pitching 3.1 innings with three strikeouts. Ben Tate pitched 1.1 innings for the Ragin' Cajuns before David Christie pitched 3.0 innings and scattering four hits.
Louisiana will return to action beginning Friday when it opens a three-game Sun Belt Conference series against Troy (23-11, 6-6 SBC) at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park. First pitch for Friday's opener is scheduled for 6 p.m.
