Louisiana opens a four-game homestand with Troy on Saturday
LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana men's tennis team opens a four-game homestand this weekend looking to get a leg up on the rest of the Sun Belt Conference. The Ragin' Cajuns opened Sun Belt Conference play last weekend with a win over Coastal Carolina.
Few players in the country are as hot as Karlo Kajin who has won eight straight to improve his record on the year to 11-1. Kajin is the only Cajun with over six wins on the season, with Kacper Dworak behind him with a 6-2 record. The Cajuns have done most of their damage on courts four, five and six, combining for a 24-12 record. They've been equally good in doubles with Kajin and partner Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez going 6-5. Dworak and teammate Vasil Dimitrov have been just as good with a 5-2 record from court two.
Troy is off to a hot start going 13-3 this spring but are 1-1 in SBC action. The Trojans had a four-match winning streak snapped at home on Sunday by No. 75 Old Dominion in a close 4-3 battle. Mario Martinez has been on fire with a 14-2 record, including 13 wins on court one. Behind him on court two, Carles Anton has 11 wins with 10 coming on court two.
Then on Sunday the Cajuns welcome the defending SBC runner-up South Alabama to the Youngsville Sports Complex. The Jaguars won both their conference matches last weekend, defeating Old Dominion and James Madison at home. Two of the team's losses came against ranked opponents with the other four coming against Power Five programs. Martin Bugaj and Maxime St.-Hilaire lead the team in singles with 11 wins while Javier Montoya has added.
