Ferrer Chueca Comes Up Clutch in Nail Biting Cajun Win
3/25/2023 5:14:00 PM | Men's Tennis
Five of the six singles matches on Saturday came down to a third set
LAFAYETTE - Things went back-and-forth and required multiple matches to have a third set tiebreaker, but when the dust settled on Saturday, March 25 between the Louisiana men's tennis team and Troy, it was the Cajuns who came out on top at Cajun Courts. Louisiana's Alejo Ferrer Chueca clinched the winning point in a third set tiebreaker for the 4-3 win.
Troy came out and won the doubles point, forcing the Cajuns to play from behind in singles action. Vasil Dimitrov evened things at one with his straight set win on court four, the only singles match to not go to a third set. On court five, Calin Postea gave the Cajuns the lead with his 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 win. William Robero followed on court six with a three set win, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, to put the Cajuns on the brink of clinching with three matches still playing.
Louisiana fell in close matches on courts one and two, with the Trojans winning a tiebreaker 7-5 on each court, to tie the score and forced everything to come down to the match on court three. Ferrer Chueca took the opening set 6-2 before dropping the second 2-6. He held the lead in the third set before his opponent Yeray Andres Pastor battled back to force a tiebreaker. Despite giving away early points in the tiebreaker on some bad serves, Ferrer Chueca came back to win the tiebreaker 7-4 and clinch the match for Louisiana.
