Women's Tennis Starts Off March Topping McNeese at Cajun Courts

Ragin' Cajuns collect fourth win over an in-state foe
LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Tennis team resumed play following a near-two week break, easing past McNeese 5-2 on Thursday, March 2 at Cajun Courts.
With the win, Louisiana (4-3) moved back above .500 and remained unbeaten on the Cajun Courts surface in the Spring 2023 dual match season. Louisiana also improved to 4-0 vs. in-state foes this spring and extended its win streak over the Cowgirls (7-2) to four matches.
The Ragin' Cajuns raced out to a 4-1 lead on Courts 1 and 2 in doubles play setting up a quick finish to clinching the point. The tandems of Carla Urchoeguia and Angelique Berrat and Momoko Yoshimura and Angel Santiago each grabbed 6-1 wins.
The tone was set in singles after Yoshimura, Berrat and Cristina Tchanichev were the first to claim an opening-set victory and give Louisiana an early edge. The trio each went on to claim straight set victories capped off by Tchanichev whose 6-3, 6-0 win on Court 4 over McNeese's Natalia Ballo clinched the match victory.
The two reams played the match in its entirety which treated the fans to Carla Urchoeguia's thrilling comeback from a 5-2 deficit against Heta Nuutinen in the first set on Court 2, followed by her 9-7 win in the second set tiebreaker to secure the straight sets sweep.
For the Ragin' Cajuns, Berrat and Tchanichev both extended lengthy winning streaks by claiming their fourth and third straight singles win, respectively.
