The duo earned a 6-0 win in their match with No. 24 Old Dominion
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana women's tennis team faced a tall task in No. 24 Old Dominion in their Sun Belt Conference opener on Friday at Cajun Courts, but the team was unphased facing one of the best squads in the nation.
Doubles action went quickly with the court one pairing of Carla Urchoeguia and Angelique Berrat cruising to a 6-0 win over the Monarchs. After dropping the match on court two, everything came down to the action on court three. The sides battled back-and-forth, but in the end Cristina Tchanichev and Lucie Raquin couldn't hold serve and the double point went to the visitors.
After dropping matches on courts one and two and their backs against the wall, the Ragin' Cajuns dug in. Tchanichev and Berrat battled back after dropping the opening set to win the second set. Over on court six Laure-Line Monnoyer claimed the second set to set up a third set while Momoke Yoshimura was fighting in a second set tiebreaker. Despite all the close scores, Tchanichev was knocked off on court four to decide the match in favor of the Monarchs.
